DATES FALM

DATES PALM:(Phoenix dactylifera) is a palm in the genus Phoenix, extensively cultivated for its edible fruit. Due to its long history of cultivation for fruit, its exact native distribution is unknown, but probably originated somewhere in the desert oases of northern Africa, and perhaps also southwest Asia. It is a medium-sized tree, 15–25 m tall, often clumped with several trunks from a single root system, but often growing singly as well. The leaves are pinnate, 3–5 m long, with spines on the petiole and about 150 leaflets; the leaflets are 30 cm long and 2 cm broad. The full span of the crown ranges from 6–10 m. HISTORY ) have been a staple food of the Middle East for thousands of years. They are believed to have originated around the Persian Gulf, and have been cultivated since ancient times from Mesopotamia to prehistoric Egypt, possibly as early as 4000 BC. There is archaeological evidence of date cultivation in eastern Arabia in 6000 BC (Alvarez-Mon 2006).

In later times, Arabs spread dates around South & South East Asia, northern Africa, and Spain. Dates were introduced into Mexico and California by the Spaniards by 1765, around Mission San Ignacio.

FRUIT

The fruit is a drupe known as a date. They are oval-cylindrical, 3–7 cm long, and 2–3 cm diameter, and when unripe, range from bright red to bright yellow in colour, depending on variety. Dates contain a single seed about 2–2.5 cm long and 6–8 mm thick. Three main cultivar groups of date exist; soft (e.g. 'Barhee', 'Halawy', 'Khadrawy', 'Medjool'), semi-dry (e.g. 'Dayri', 'Deglet Noor', 'Zahidi'), and dry (e.g. 'Thoory'). The type of fruit depends on the glucose, fructose and sucrose content.

The Date Palm is dioecious, having separate male and female plants. They can be easily grown from seed, but only 50% of seedlings will be female and hence fruit bearing, and dates from seedling plants are often smaller and of poorer quality. Most commercial plantations thus use cuttings of heavily cropping cultivars, mainly 'Medjool' as this cultivar produces particularly high yields of large, sweet fruit. Plants grown from cuttings will fruit 2–3 years earlier than seedling plants.

Dates are naturally wind pollinated but in both traditional oasis horticulture and in the modern commercial orchards they are entirely pollinated manually. Natural pollination occurs with about an equal number of male and female plants. However, with assistance, one male can pollenize up to 100 females. Since the males are of value only as pollenizers, this allows the growers to use their resources for many more fruit producing female plants. Some growers do not even maintain any male plants as male flowers become available at local markets at pollination time. Manual pollination is done by skilled labourers on ladders, or in some areas such as Iraq they climb the tree using a special climbing tool that wraps around the tree trunk and the climber's back to keep him attached to the trunk while climbing. Less often the pollen may be blown onto the female flowers by wind machine.

Parthenocarpic cultivars are available but the seedless fruit is smaller and of lower quality.[citation needed]

Dates ripen in four stages, which are known throughout the world by their Arabic names kimrikhalal (full-size, crunchy), rutab (ripe, soft), tamr (ripe, sun-dried). A 100 gram portion of fresh dates is a premium source of vitamin C and supplies 230 kcal (960 kJ) of energy. Since dates contain relatively little water, they do not become much more concentrated upon drying, although the vitamin C is lost in the process. (unripe),

Dates are an important traditional crop in Iraq, Arabia, and north Africa west to Morocco and are mentioned in many places in the Quran. In Islamic countries, dates and yogurt or sometimes milk are a traditional first meal when the sun sets during Ramadan. Dates (especially Medjool and Deglet Noor) are also cultivated in southern California and Arizona in the United States.

Date palms can take 4 to 7 years after planting before they will bear fruit, and produce viable yields for commercial harvest between 7 to 10 years. Mature date palms can produce 80–120 kilograms (176–264 lbs) of dates per harvest season, although they do not all ripen at the same time so several harvests are required. In order to get fruit of marketable quality, the bunches of dates must be thinned and bagged or covered before ripening so that the remaining fruits grow larger and are protected from weather & pests such as birds.

Has the Lord chosen Jeshurun because he grew fat and kicked; filled with food?

Is Jeshurun the Lord' chosen people in the Bible?
Yes
The Lord says in Isaiah 44:2: "Jeshurun, whom I have chosen ".
In order to have a good idea about Jeshurun, I have read 10 different versions of the Bible in addition to Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary.
In eight out of 10 versions, the Lord said:" Jeshurun, whom I have chosen."
In one version (KJV), Jeshurun is written as Jesurun
In the New Living Translation Jeshurun is translated to "O dear Israel"

In the footnotes of the verse Isaiah 44:2 it is said that:
Jeshurun means the upright, the straight or the honest one, that is, Israel.

Well, Jeshurun is the upright, the straight or the honest Israel
But from where in the original Hebrew version does the New Living Translation comes out with: "O dear" which is not present at all in the original Hebrew version.

Anyway, let us see the criteria and characters of Jeshurun or the upright, the straight, the honest "O dear" Israel that cause the Lord to Chose them:

Deuteronomy 32:15 describes Jeshurun and says:

New International Version
Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, he became heavy and sleek. He abandoned the God who made him and rejected the Rock his Savior.

King James Version
But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
----------------

Also, Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on the Bible says under a title called: "The wickedness of Israel":
"Here are two instances of the wickedness of Israel, each was apostacy from God. These people were called Jeshurun, to? an upright people, to? so some; to?a seeing people, to ? so others: but they soon lost the reputation both of their knowledge and of their righteousness. They indulged their appetites, as if they had nothing to do but to make provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts of it. Those who make a god of themselves, and a god of their bellies, in pride and wantonness, and cannot bear to be told of it, thereby forsake God, and show they esteem him lightly. There is but one way of a sinner's acceptance and sanctification, however different modes of irreligion, or false religion, may show that favorable regard for other ways, which is often miscalled candid. How mad are idolaters, who forsake the Rock of salvation, to run themselves upon the rock of perdition!"

Isaiah 44:2
In these seven version, New International Version, New American Standard Bible, English Standard Version, The Message, Holman Christian Standard Bible, Amplified Bible and New Life Version:

"This is what the LORD says… Do not be afraid (Do not fear, Fear not), O Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen."
-------------

In King James Version
Thus saith the LORD…Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
-------------

In Darby Translation
Thus saith Jehovah…Fear not, Jacob, my servant, and thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
-------------

But in New Living Translation, you find "O dear Israel" instead of Jeshurun

"The Lord who made you and helps you says: Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, O dear Israel, my chosen one."
-------------

To conclude:
Jeshurun is found in New International Version, New American Standard Bible, English Standard Version, The Message, Holman Christian Standard Bible, Amplified Bible, New Life Version and Darby Translation
Jesurun is found in King James Version
O dear Israel is found in New Living Translation

Is Jeshurun the Lord' chosen people in the Quran?

No, they are not.
The Quran declares clearly that there is no a specific nation(s) which is the Lord' people. Also, the Prophet Muhammad said that there no privileges for the Arabic over the non-Arabic and also there no privileges for the white over the black except in respect to the Lord fearing. The more you fear your Lord, the more you are close to Him.
Again, in order to confuse, the Quran says in two verses [2:47 and 2:122] that Allah favored the children of Israel. This happened at the time of Pharaoh and Moses when the children of Israel were believers and fear of their Lord.

Verse 49:13 of the Noble Quran announces that:

O mankind! Allah has indeed created you male and female from Adam and Eve, and has made you nations and tribes that you may come to know one another. This means that you may acquire knowledge of the customs of one another and not to boast to one another.
Truly the noblest of you in the sight of God is the most God-fearing among you.
Lo! The noblest of you in the Hereafter, (in the sight of Allah) on the Day of Judgment, (is the best in conduct) in the life of the world;
Truly God is Knower, of you, Aware, of your inner thoughts.
Lo! Allah is Knower of your status and lineage; Allah is Aware of your works and standing in His sight.
---------------

Verse 49:13 of the Noble Quran in different translations:

QARIB: people, we have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes that you might know one another. The noblest of you before Allah is the most righteous of you. Allah is the knower, the aware.
SHAKIR: O you men! surely we have created you of a male and a female, and made you tribes and families that you may know each other; surely the most honorable of you with Allah is the one among you most careful (of his duty); surely Allah is knowing, aware
PICKTHAL: O mankind! lo! we have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. lo! The noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is knower, aware.
YUSUFALI: O mankind! we created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. and Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).
